Whee!  Earthquakes are fun.  I've only felt two in my life and would like to ride through at least a couple more.  :)

I suppose he could have inside info on the real birth date of Christ, and be enough of a fundamentalist to devise his own calendar.

Or there could be something about signs and portents (earthquakes as early warnings, for example) in the fantasies regarding the significance of 2012, but I'm not really well-versed in all that crap.

Or it's a reference to an event in the film that I have not watched and have no intention of ever watching.
