Shot, pitch, the balls moving to a target :P

I guess it'll speed up games, but it just seems off. Might it lead to more pitcher wear and tear/ injury?

We have had it in College Baseball for awhile. I think its fine but then I really like fast working pitchers. JP Howell would have the pitch headed back about 0.5 seconds after the catcher threw him back the ball. My man.

How? It is the number of pitches, not the speed. And besides it is pretty long.

Quick repetition would be more damaging, no?

*edit* maybe I'm just thinking machinery

"This guy is a dead pull hitter" is not analytics.  It's just watching him hit.

Maybe but the pitch clock is 15 seconds, not five seconds.

Shifts were calibrated based on spray charts and optimized to each batter.

I assume porn studios do the same for the money shots.

I see Cubbies and Cards are playing in London.  Do they do this every year?

Grey Fox

So, yes. Every year.

Quote from: Grey Fox on March 22, 2023, 08:33:15 PMBoy softball! That's cool, we don't have that here.

Yeah boys are not allowed to play softball until we are old and doing it for fun.

Huh - never thought about it.

Baseball is a tricky sport to learn.  If you don't have a basic proficiency in throwing, catching and hitting it is just PAINFUL to both play and watch.  Whereas from experience, even if you're terrible at hockey you can still play some kind of meaningful version of the game.

So (if like my kid) you're just starting out at age 9 I think softball would be a much easier introduction to the whole game.

Josh's softball team has their first game tonight. :w00t:

Apparently their team is the only all-boys team in their league.  The team they're playing tonight looks to be all-girls.  But almost all of Josh's team has never played ball before.

I have been working with Josh at least for his throwing and catching.  He's doing much better than I thought he would, though he's not exactly God's gift to softball.

How did Josh fair, BB?

My son, Cédric, didn't make one of the A teams and played B ball all summer.

His team had 4 kids out of 11 who had never played baseball before. They didn't have a good regular season ending with a record of 5-11-3. He learn to throw, his category introduces pitchers to the game, properly and worked on his hitting. He played 5 games with the above category (13UB)to his and performed adequately in all of them. Was even player of the game once.

Tomorrow afternoon, his team will play for a spot in Sunday's regional championship game. Winning the regionals sends them to the provincial championship next week.
