I play a mission now and then. They fell so same-ish, though.

They don't feel any more or less same-ish than any other MMO.

So I'm pretty sure the Languish infatuation with STO is over.

I'm still enjoying it however.  Just made it into Romulan space.

I'm waiting for your slow ass to catch up....

Not for kbig-108, he's still got to put in the hours to justify his sunk costs.

Well, for me it does. Most MMOs have a larger number of more diverse locales and opponents, decent boss fights etc. STO goes to great lengths trying to make space as diverse as possible, but in the end you keep doing your fighting for the most part: near a planet, in an asteroid field, in a planet's ring, You fight 90% of the time Gorn, Orions, Klingons, Romulans that distinguish themselves at higher levels only from their lower level counterparts through the use of more skills.

Space combat is fun, but ground missions seem more like a chore than fun. I found myself avoiding unnecessary confrontations not because they were hard, but because I knew that the enemies would be no challenge for my away team and it might cost me five extra minutes with little to gain except paltry sums of XP and a very slim chance of a useful item dropping.

Speaking of which - many MMOs have hunting great loot as feature. I don't feel that here. The items feel generic (Mk I though Mk X or however far it goes), rare items don't feel too special and items sometimes have cryptic stats. I still have no idea what a holomatrix does or what photonic theory affects. Besides, why go hunt for cool items when the Exchange is brimming with them and you have too much money on your hands most of the time, anyways?

I couldn't agree more Syt. The other problem is that top tier loot (epic mark x) at max rear admiral rank comes from doing a single daily. There is zero reason for cooperative play so far. I know they're adding 5 man raids (wtf?) but god knows how far away that is.

I haven't bothered to log in for a week. I suppose I should explore a Klingon alt... but meh. Feels like this game is going to go down the same path of Aion, Warhammer, and AoC where they can never quite compete with WoW because developers rush to release a grossly incomplete game at max level. Yes, I know WoW didn't release with an end game either, but this isn't 2004 anymore.

Fate, one reason why WoW is so hard to beat for new MMOs is that WoW got a headstart of (now) 5 or 6 years, and it had less competition when it came out.

Of the titles that came later - City of Heroes, AoC, LotRO, Vanguard, WAR, ... - probably only CoH or LotRO could establish themselves in the market. And EVE, but it's a fundamentally different product than WoW or LotRO.

STO ... I'm not sure they know yet what niche they want to fill with it, as it tries a few things and only really succeeds at space combat - something that I bet they'll expand on.

I'm still playing.  But right now I'm working full time, and teaching classes at two universities three nights a week.  I prioritize my wife over STO.
