I agree. Star Trek has the weakest locales of an established science fiction. In fact, I can't really think of any well defined planetary location. It is a very character based type of show. Planets tend to be rather generic in a scientific way - Regulus VIII rather than Tatooine or whatever.

That isn't to say the game doesn't have a lot to offer, but setting was never STs strong point.

I wonder which direction they'll take this.

Agh, the agony of waiting!

As others indicated, the Guardian of Forever mission was very satisfying.   :)

I got past the encounter I was having trouble with by increasing power to weapons, taking out one of two ships, then respawning to take out the second.  Somewhat cheesy, but it worked.

Had no probs with the mission, but I was two levels above it when I did it.

The heavy Cruiser is a pretty big step up from the Cruiser.  Biggest problem now is running out of power for all my weapons.

Wow, this thing goes through mobs like a hot knife through butter.  Sometimes the enemy ships go down before I have a chance to look up from pushing all my buff buttons.

Flying around in your Miranda is fine enough, but space combat gets much more interesting once you're in a bigger ship...

All this talk of buffs and the ilk...
So this is just a standard MMORPG but with space ships instead of people?

Tyr, it has a different feel to it.  I still dont get the sense of tank/dps/healer. Also, this game is heavily instanced.  You dont have to interact with anyone if you dont wish to.  However, I do like the Fleet Actions which are very similar to the open group quest areas in WarHammer.

The away team quests are becoming my favorite - especially since a very nice rare weapon dropped for me. :)

I am still waiting to see what the end game is like.  That is the thing that will really decide whether they can keep/grow their subscribers.

It is and it isn't.

It is a MMO, and much of the interface will be familiar (your abilities are tied into hotkeys 1-8, you collect gear and experience to make your character more powerful).

However it is with space ships AND people - it's almost two games in one, with half the action on the ground, and half the action in space.  The game is also heavily instanced, which apparently drives some people crazy, but I rather like.

So after picking heavy escort at my free tier 3 ship, i went and spent energy credits on the Heavy Cruiser, and yes CC i can see how you have to manage power settings for weapons on that thing

I got some BO skills to boost weapons energy and I usually keep weapons at max - but even then....

I wonder whether developing skill in heavy cruiser helps with the next tier(s).  I have a sinking feeling that I am throwing skill points away there.

From what i've read spending points in the heavy (escort/cruiser) or the research science only help for those levels you are using them, unlike the basic cruiser/escort/sci vessel skills you train in 11-20 range.

Got a cruiser.  Wow, what a difference a hull makes.

Ok, well I wont spend anymore there.  On the bright side, only 4 or 5 points wasted.
