Yeah, that is very cool.  The way I think the space game is supposed to work is the Science vessel vaporizes target shields and takes down subsystems allowing the Escort vessel to pile in the damage while the Cruiser extends its shields and repairs both while the other side tries to do the same.

Well that simplifies things a bit much (other than Escorts going pewpewpew), as both Cruisers and Science have a few other tricks up their sleeves.  In particular cruisers are designed to take punishing damage and keep on ticking.  Not sure if there's a way for you to absorb damage during PvP or not.

Science vessels of course can detect cloaked ships, scramble enemy sensors, and apply other buffs/debuffs.

By the way, any iterest in joining the Fleet Kat and are are in?  It's designed to appeal to players in the US Northwest, plus BC and Alaska.  I convinced them that since Yukon was right inbetween the last two... :shifty:

It's kind of nice to have at least something in common with your fleet, and they're moderately chatty (not too much, not too little).  Haven't grouped with anyone yet though.

And that being said, they are not completely restricted to other regions if other people really wanted to join...  :)

I have been meaning to join but just havent gotten around to it.

Cruiser damage is lessoned by the fact that it has such a piss poor turning radius so large amounts of time go buy when damage cannot be done directly.  Sure Science ships and Cruisers have tricks up their sleeves but I get the sense that most of what they can do is open up the possibility for Escorts to do maximize damage.

Its an interesting twist on the Tank/Healer/dps model.  Here there is not really a tank or a true healing class.  Just a bunch of methods to keep your teams shields up while getting the others guys down so the Escort and friends can finish him off.

Playing with a well organized fleet could be a load of fun - especially in PvP since a lot of folks dont really have a clue what they are doing beyond just flying in circles.

So I log on last night around 8:30 pst to group up with some of you guys who have been complaining about not grouping (Katmai) and not a soul was to be found.  So I ran a few sector defence missions with some random people and ended up with a new MrkIII wide arc disruptor for my effort.

Hey, I didn't complain about not grouping. :P

I played a bit with my Klingon last night. Grouped with a bunch of strangers and engaged a Fed. dreadnought fleet. We took one out but as I focused my fire at the second dreadnoughts rear I started to reverse speed in order to gain distance. Suddenly my shields dropped and I found myself attacked by a third dreadnought. For awhile I was able to stay alive using my higher turn rate and speed but then the second dreadnought, wich refused to explode, fired at me.

Stovokhor is a nice place!

I'm still only at level 6 with my Fed tactical character. I'm contemplating whether or not I should go for the cruiser or the escort. So far it's the cruiser since it's a constitution class we...vessel.

If you don't see "bound" under the name in the inventory description, then he's full of it.  It'll tell you if it's bound/bind on equip/bind on pickup (rare, from what I hear).
