I am a Commander 3 or 4.  After the initial rush of getting my Tier 3 Cruiser everything is starting to get a monotonous feeling about it again.  In space go kill the same type of ships you have always been killing for the last several levels.  On the ground go up a road/path to the next group of bad guys and kill them using the same tactics you always use.

The thing that really is getting to me is I dont really notice any difference that any skills actually make.  None of my ground crew has any ground skills and yet I have no trouble at all taking on ground mobs.  In space I cant really tell what difference any of my skills actually make except for the shorter cool downs on my BO skills.

In most MMOs there is some real anticipation of getting a new skill or improving the skills one already has.  Here the only think to look forward to is the next Tier ship but really its just more of the same of more slots.  To add to the bland feel of this game the itemization is terrible.  I suppose they were constrained by the ST universe but its hard to get excited about getting a Mark V to replace your Mark IV so that you can get a few more points of damage (and if really lucky a rare drop with a 2.5% chance of doing some more damage).

I tried some of the fleet actions to see if that would spice things up a bit but that is mostly people running around with no idea what they are doing.  Most of the time the fleet action never gets completed because of that and so you end up spending 30 minutes or more for nothing.  PvP, as has already been said, is no fun for Fed types.  It might be fun for the Klingons.  I might try that.

But really it is the lack of anticipation of what will happen as I advance with in terms of skills and drops that is making me lose interest.  Even if they do create an end game they still have to deal with the itemization issue.  Who is doing to spend time in a five man zone if the items are not worth the expenditure of time?

This is what I hit as I got close to the Galaxy class Cruiser..... It was all just the same nothing was different. :(
Then you won't be surprised once you hit Rear Admiral either. :P

Canceled my subscription. I suppose it can't complain though, leveling up to rank 45 the first time was fun enough and certainly consumed as more hours than Mass Effect 2. I may return once there's some meaningful end game content.

Maybe my expectations are just a bit low, but I really wasn't expecting worlds to be rocked upon leveling up.  The fact of the matter is that they're still a Trek franchise and need to keep it at least somewhat familiar for us Trekkies.  If I had to gripe about anything, it would be the over-reliance on arena-style deathmatches.  What's kept Trek running for so long is its depth of setting.

I'm not saying STO should be Second Life on starships and colonies, but to me, the game really suffers from the fact that there's no real non-combat roleplay element; I feel like I'm doing the same scavenger hunts and "destroy xxx" missions ad nauseum.

it's the perfect mmo to play for short amounts I'd say. Just enough to get a bit of kick, do some missions and then stop lest it becomes a bore.
The weekly episode rather than the 11-hour-lets-watch-all-the-movies-of-LOTR-at-once-thing where you just have to keep going only to burn out.

Someone over at EUOT posted this

QuoteMy guild and I played the game since Open Beta. The combat was a blast and we went with the Klingon faction for PvP but the game is now dead. There is simply no content. The Klingon faction got the worst of it, not only you are limited to PvP and a couple of PvE grind areas but all the areas are Tiered. Meaning if your friend or guildmate get ahead in levels or falls behind there is no effective way to play together. Furthermore the game has massive bugs and imbalances, the developers refuse to fix the Tactical Class for Klingons which suffers from lack of appropriate spec attributes, thus making it 1/2 efficient of its Fed counterpart.

All this led to a mass exodus of the Klingon faction, with the Federation faction highly outnumbering the Klinks the pvp waiting queues are more then an hour long. Which means that once you max out your character there is nothing to do but kill NPCs. Even worse is that the developers promised a content pacth last week but then delayed that indefinately. So tommorow, March 4th, is when 30 days of free play run out. Many people will leave and Cryptic knows it, they stopped refunding lifetime subsribers. Atari also ran a promotion this past weekend that gave a 10$ discount on the game and gave new players 90 free days, effectively slapping the early adapters in the face and signaling the perilous state of STO.

React to me.

I admit that becoming a lifer on this game might not have been the wisest of choices, but I've done worse.

Thanks for the reminder.  I just cancelled.

Some quick comments.

PvP needs more cowbell on the Fed side.  My Rapier is an escort, not a battlecruiser.  It's outfitted with dual torpedo launchers in front, a dual disruptor bank also in front, and a dual disruptor array in the rear.  I've also got tac consoles upgrading photon damage and disruptors.  It's a wonderful missile boat; I can take down a Zilant at +1 in one salvo.  There's just one problem: escorts suck at taking damage.

I PvP with some random peeps, and it goes down thusly.

You have been defeated!

I'm about ready to start playing a Klingon, just so I can make these brats go cry to mommy about why they can't win a single match.

They came out with the new 5 man "raidisode" today.

Not max level so I don't care, but nice to see they're still moving on such things.

Yes, I'll definitely keep an eye on what they add/change. :)

Pity. If they'd released it a week earlier I might have resubscribed. Seems like it's poor planning on their part to delay the release of such critical content until a mere day or two before a cancellation wave.

lol - just chatted with a Vulcan female sex hologram program who went "wait - these aren't the Pon Farr pits"...

That was a good quest.  There were some gems in there but unfortunately, for me, there was too much chaff and not enough wheat.
