UK financial year ends April 5th, you then have till Jan 30th/31st to file your return, the taxman then checks/whatever and bills you/ and/or the system is so falling apart gets back to you with a bill of some form for a somewhat random amount.

I find the state taxes to be the most troublesome. This year's adventure was the DMV goofed on paperwork and tried to have a set-off lien placed against my state refund; got it straightened out after hours of hassle on the phone.
