There's something about german soldiers marching with torches that makes me slightly uneasy, though it really shouldn't.

It makes everybody uneasy, and for good reason.

Which is why, normally, you'll have a couple hundred leftist protestors on such occasions.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Great Tattoo parade?

QuoteThe word "Tattoo" is derived from "Doe den tap toe", or just "tap toe" ("toe" is pronounced "too"), the Dutch for "Last orders". Translated literally, it means: "put the tap to", or "close or turn off the tap". The term "Tap-toe" was first encountered by the British Army when stationed in Flanders during the War of the Austrian Succession.

Cool pictures and tradition. I keep hoping Germany and its military can move on from the past, not feel like the bad guys forever as the nation has certainly tried its hardest to come to terms with the past. Be all the better for all of us.

Not really.  If Germany went crazy, conquered and brutalized Europe, they'd deserve no less.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.

They'd need an army that would come out of the barracks once in a while first.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

They do on weekends.

A terrorist which starts a slaughter quoting Locke, Burke and Mill has completely missed the point.
The fact remains that the only person or group to applaud the Norway massacre are random Islamists.
