I don't do metal. I was in school in pre-emo days; the kids that would today be emos were the metal fans.

Mostly. Freakin' awful is what Arch Enemy is. I only made it halfway through "Nemesis" before I had to turn it off so I could stop laughing and breathe.

since Lester Bangs lifted from Burroughs and broke the damn term of the genre in  music criticism, I'm gonna accept his definition (yes, that means I also think Marx was a Marxist and Christ was a Christian, despite whatever else they were). His metal includes what is now known as "hard rock."

Smoke on the Water by Deep Purple
Walk this Way by Aerosmith
Lord of Light by Hawkwind
Stonehedge by Spinal Tap
Rock and Roll All Night by Kiss

Surprisingly, no LZ. but that's because I like LZ III the most, which has a bunchofotherthings going on there.

Indeed. I agonized for a bit over including Astronomy, but figured that since Metallica's take is more commonly associated with it than Blue Oyster Cult's, it was probably safe.
BTW, nice to see a Hawkwind entry in there.

Yeah, but they have 2 songs that are great, Dead Eyes See No Future and We Will Rise.
These thread was about songs, not bands or albums.
Its very rare for me to actually like a full album.
Last album I loved from start to finish was And Justice For All, way back, in '88.

Emo and modern metal are pretty similar.  They both attract whiny bitches.
I do not hate you, nor do I love you, but you are made out of atoms which I can use for something else.
