I was thinking north, not just Norland, so Kiruna. True on Luleå though...but then its on the south coast technically  ;)
Gavle is pretty darn central....

Sorry, but every concievable (economical, cultural, linguistic) border puts Norrland which is used synomiosuly with northern Sweden north of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dal%C3%A4lven Dalälven. What you are referring to as 'up North' would then be either refered to as Northern Norrland or  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Norrbotten_County Norrbottens län and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V%C3%A4sterbotten_County Västerbottens län
