AI slop for Sheilbh: brutalism, (retro-)futurism AND nostalgy, nuclear power, TGV; techno-optimism as in progress will solve everything (no bats to save here remember) etc. Back then 8-bit micro-computers were high-tech cf. Thomson MO5 & TO7.
Gloire à Giscard !  :frog:
Some industrial projects shown on the video were actually cancelled under VGE but who cares? Plus some started before, or Franco-British.  :P

P-S: Giscardpunk (sic) is really franglais inspired by steampunk (don't ask)

No idea Brainiac got back together.  Still sounds like music from the future despite being made 30 years ago.

Interesting mix.

Love the Junkies myself...even their later stuff.

I used to see them at a club in Toronto, the Grapevine, back before and around the time the  Trintiy Sessions came out. Margo was a friend of a schoolmate of mine (In fact she went to the same university as I did, she studied social work) and I got to meet her a few times back then.

Marvin Gaye - Here my Dear (1978)

I knew of this album by reputation, but had never heard it before.  Marvin's advance and royalties were the settlement for his divorce to his first wife, Anna (Berry Gordy's sister.)  He initially went into the studio to make a cheap and quick album, and instead made this... one of a kind double album which details his feelings for Anna, their adopted son and the divorce.  It's good, it's brutally honest, but listening to it it's hard not to think, "Marvin, you know that's the boss's sister you're singing about, right?"  It's a lot like "What's Going On" or "Let's Get it On" where the songs bleed into one another.
In Italy, for thirty years under the Borgias, they had warfare, terror, murder and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had five hundred years of democracy and peace—and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock
