Except for 4 hours 10 days ago, we haven't had any in Anchorage, and i'm smart enough to stay indoors or wear a mask if i had to be outside.

Nice bike, though I'm too old for that road geometry and straight fork handling.

Hope you didn't damage the bike, oh and yourself too much; after all you're largely self repairing. 

Just a couple of bruises and the bike is ok fortunately. I need some practice in unlocking my shoes in time

  Tip over, did you?  That's the thing about clips; they're awesome once you're very comfortable with them, and until then they're a tip waiting to happen.

Dragon boat practice was nuts last night.  Out of the 18 people we *should* have in the boat (16 paddlers, the caller up front and the tiller in the rear) we had 11.  That's 9 paddlers, not 16.   We worked HARD.  My arms and shoulders felt like jello for a couple of hours after practice.  I feel pretty good this morning, though - not sore...

...which is good because tonight I start my 8-week running program.

I was thiiiiiiiiis close to splurging on a Trek road bike.  I was looking at the 1.2, but I like the 1000 series as well.  I settled instead for the hybrid, which was about half the price.  It's a Gary Fisher, which is owned by Trek anyway.

Is Trek more expensive than Gary Fisher in the States?

No, they're comparable in the States.  It's just that "true" road bikes tend to be more expensive than hybrids.  I looked at several hybrids, but eventually it was down to two: a Trek (the 7.2) and a Gary Fisher (the Wingra).  Since they were comparable in almost every way except that the Fisher was $20 more, felt smoother, shifted better, and has a longer tube which accomodates my freakishly long torso allowing me to stretch out a little more, I went with the Fisher.

I think only the specialist models of Gary Fisher are imported here, hence the high prices.

Both my bikes are standard mountain bikes/offroad bikes with shock absorbtion. It's less fun riding them on tarmac or asphalt.

Ah - yeah, I think Gary Fisher *only* used to make mountain bikes.  They've recently started to make road, commuter, and hybrid bikes as well.  I don't know what the US prices are like at all on their mountain bikes, because I wasn't shopping for that.

And it is true that mountain bikes are very inefficient on pavement.
