Their worst result was 5-2 loss to Brazil (June 24, 1958). So while less goals, differential is worse.

Seems weird that goals from bronze game count towards golden boot.  It's essentially a friendly, the final will almost always be a lower-scoring affair because teams there actually care about losing.

Wouldn't be fun otherwise

I get it's partly because no one cares/nothing riding on it so the fear of loss is lifted. But I also just feel both sides should be more embarrassed somehow.

Edit: Like literally everyone in France and England staring at their tv shouting "where was this, lads?"
