Btw, in my recent USA game I was on the way to the classic utopia, but the capitalists tend to get so powerful now I had to revert to oligarchy, and switch public healthcare and education to private to keep things together. :D

(The president for over 20 years was also the CEO of the company I had given the monopoly for goldmines  )

So basically, you elected Herbert Hoover. :)

Not sure if that is WAD but it does match what happened historically in the Gilded Age and the Lochner era.  Better than the other pattern of boosting the labor unions and then shifting into Council Republic, which ahistorically boosts SoL.

I'd suggest trying out the new corporate state law which looks strong, except that ironically the industrialists oppose it.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

The Minsky Moment

For USA I've used

Basic metal company, after ditching Cramp.
Lee Wilson - cotton, wood, grain
Carnegie Steel
Panama Canal Co
Colt Firearms - gives 10% army offense
Ford Motor - also gave them the extra rubber charter

Plan to pick standard oil for the last slot.

I haven't tried using monopolies - are they strong?  Don't have a sense of the impact
Mostly I've used foreign investment so they can build those overseas subsidiaries that use the other country's investment pool.

I have played with the Great Revision series.

It helps Prussia and Sardinia-Piedmont a lot, but for some reason or other, makes you have only one company. And I like my companies. No FIAT? Fuck off.

The mods also felt like being railroaded a bit. A bit too much.

It brings a few new laws and institutions, and with a bit of knowledge of history, they make little sense.

All in all, 3 out 5 stars.

Yeah it's very exciting stuff, and not even the DLC content. I wonder how much of it will be broken at release.

Norgy

"Just a little broken", as I tell my dates about myself.

I need to temper my expectations, they are finally addressing the biggest shortcomings of the game (from the POV my enjoyment of it) and in a more creative way than I expected. Very excited.

Yeah, I try to keep in mind that 1.09, as great as it was in terms of gameplay changes, needed a few patches to work out some kinks, like AI not building trade capacity. :D

That's just a given, it's why I waited until the last hotfix to play it. I'll pay for the games but my days as an uncompensated beta tester are over.

I've read it, thanks :) Sounds good, especially that you can't please all the nationalities if you want to federalise.

Now the Czechs' heads are imploding somewhere.
