There's been a lot in the news about Banksy lately. He has been doing a piece a day around London and people are all over it.

What do you make of the man?
Greatest artist of our time?
Criminal scum bag who shouldn't be respected the way he is?
Fun prankster?
Something else?

Graffiti art does seem to sit in an interesting grey area where it's something negative and illegal generally but if you do it well enough its OK... Ish. Maybe.
But then there are occasions where it doesn't even need to be good. Or even art. Like that famous message in Sheffield.

He's fine. A little twee, but fine.

(That may, in part, be the reaction of having lived in Bristol for three years  )

Never really got him. I mean his art pieces aren't bad, but don't get why all the attention.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

It is far better for the truth to tear my flesh to pieces, then for my soul to wander through darkness in eternal damnation.

Jet: So what kind of woman is she? What's Julia like?
Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.
Faye: Like an angel from the underworld. Or a devil from Paradise.

I like some of his work, but a lot of the more recent stuff is not particularly interesting. The adulation coming from some sectors of society seems ridiculous to me, as do the valuations placed on the work. He is the Guardian readers graffiti artist...middle class, safe and lacking challenging social criticism.

Well his recent London animals series was made just to make people feel good. :bleeding:

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists.
