The Wing Commander games.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Agreed on Colonization. Didn't like the Civ4 based one very much either.

Empire of the Fading Suns.

Also Darklands. Based in Medieval Europe. I don't play many of these type games but really liked that one.

Railroad Tycoon. I have it from Steam, good game still, but it seems like some things are missing from the original game.

A good remake of transport tycoon with just the right balance of realism and letting one indulge in fantasy building would be my dream game.

Yes, I enjoyed Transport Tycoon and feel a lot more could be done with it in a remake.

I remember playing the UK game 'Dailey Thompson's Decathlon' , it was wildly popular in the early days of home gaming.
