I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Never even heard of that film.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Same. I'm not sure that would be common knowledge.

Quote from: The Minsky Moment on November 25, 2024, 06:40:21 PMSays a lot about this place that you have to post to confirm knowledge of a big Hollywood star vehicle, but it is just assumed that references to an obscure failed 19th century ruler and an army chief of staff of a defunct polity from a century ago will be understood as a matter of course.
I did not understand the reference. :(

I think the point was that a fairly popular movie from the 1990s starring a huge movie star is a more common reference to make that referring to leaders from 19th century Austria-HUngary.
Posts here are my own private opinions.  I do not speak for my employer.

I feel like my C programs often do: I don't get the reference.
