Here we go. From Monday, private indoor gatherings will be limited to ten people. (This is for bars, restaurants etc. - for private residences it will be a recommendation, as the constitutional court decided in summer that this is not something the state can enact in this case, or enforce.)

In restaurants, food and drink is only to be taken at tables, and maximum 10 people per table. Wearing masks is mandatory in restaurants if you're not at your table, and at open air markets and at expos.

Our nightclubs, bars and banquet halls have been closed again.

In Hungary official numbers are going quite up and I don't think there's THAT much more testing compared to the spring.

But just from celebrity/sport news and and hearing local news from family & friends it seems more widespread than it was during the spring and summer (the country did go into a strict lockdown right at the start of it appearing there).

The person in charge of the testing program was giving evidence in Parliament today. It turns out that a large rise in testing demand in September (when schools and universities returned full-time) "wasn't in any of the modelling" and no-one had included it in their project plans  :weep:

Does the Hungarian press have any reports on what's going on in Romania? Because I think they went into lockdown early too and avoided the first wave, but from that map it looks quite bad there (and the Czech Republic.

Obviously Spain, France and Portugal look really bad - and it appears to have reached the Spansh islands - I wonder if that's because tourism sort of restarted?

Once restrictions on movement were lifted it was only a matter of time.

I remember a recent mention that's is pretty terrible there, but not much else.

Sadiq Khan's cancelled London's New Year fireworks, which suggests he's not anticipating we'll be out of this by then :(

(I mean probably the right decision/judgement call obvs.)

Sitges (Catalonia's LGBT capital of sorts) has cancelled their carnival, which was scheduled for February 2021, which I guess is understandably pessimistic  :(

Maladict

Carnival has been cancelled here as well. It's mostly to do with preparations starting soon (and the money/subsidies being spent on it) than any realistic idea of what the situation will be in February.

Syt

Not officially canceled, but it looks like Vienna's ball season will at least be very curtailed.

The numbers from Vienna:

3,112 active cases, 230 fatalities, 7,462 recoveries.

5 days later.

Incidentally, new testing and track and trace figures from Wales. Their testing system is holding up. Their track and trace figures also look excellent:
- 95% cases reached
- 88% of their contacts reached
- 92% contacts reached by 24 hrs, 98% by 48 hours

It's almost like relying on the (still existing) local authority public health teams is a better strategy than using an outsourcing company with a history of massive failures on government contracts :hmm:
