Just back on the R thing apparently despite local leaders asking for it there's no way to breakdown it down into actual government regions. Public Health England can't provide, say, Manchester with any information.

Again, we are having policy driven by a crazily centralised approach to public health. Because it's worked so well so far :bleeding:

It is funny because I am so used to everything being so chaotic and decentralized I, at first, read your post as Manchester refusing to share information with the central government. Heh I guess you pick your poison between micromanagement from London or hundreds of different jurisdictions just doing whatever they think is a good idea like over here.

Close to 1/3 of Germany's 401 administrative districts had no new infections in the last seven days. There are some localized super-spreading events though, which cause high case numbers in some districts.

As Sweden has more than 50 new cases per 100,000 population, persons travelling to Germany from there must now go in mandatory 14 day quarantine. Until now, Germany had no travel restrictions with Sweden.

In general, Germany will replace the travel warning for the Schengen area & UK/Ireland with travel advisory starting next week. That's important for insurance etc. and should increase tourism and travel considerably. Also masks will now be mandatory in all airports and aircraft.

Washington state continues to have over two hundred daily infections.  Not sure about other border states, but that number is going to have to drop before the border reopens.  The Liberals would face a lot of criticism if they lifted the border restrictions too early.

And of course, it's going to go up because of the protesting and things opening up.

This isn't going to be a quick thing, no matter how badly people want it to be. And I assure you, I'm not best pleased about it. I really wanted to go up to Victoria Island for a long weekend this summer. :(

Edit: The island that Victoria, BC, is on. :P

I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

There are a few early signs of second waves in some American states - particularly California, Texas and Florida.

Also second waves in Iran and Israel (though this is from a very low base). Still no sign of any in Europe.

They will happen as they did in Singapore and South Korea, the key will be whether the public health system is able to identify and contain them.

In London there have now been a few 24 periods with no new cases reported and for the last week or so the daily deaths (in hospitals) have been under 10. It seems like most of the infections and fatalities are now in other areas especially the Midlands and North-East and Yorkshire. Again I think it's probably relevant that London, I think, has fewer care homes per capita than other bits of the country but more inter-generational households.

Do you mean Vancouver Island, which has the city of Victoria on it?

Point stands: I wanted to go and COVID said no, and I'm not happy about it. :P

I'd have given you mad props if you were visiting Cambridge Bay, Nunavut (locatd on Victoria Island) though.  It only costs... $1400 return from Edmonton.

Google Street View has all of it, even the interior of the public buildings. It's fascinating.

Never been to Cam Bay, but I did spend one week in Nunavut (in the middle of January!).  It's a cool but freaky place.

Here's some happy news: WHO is now saying that although asymptomatic transmission can happen, it is "very rare".
