At what point during that time did they become infectious?
Between January 16th and today, I'd say. ;)
Well, they are infectious before they are symptomatic.
But the good news is, this spreads like the flu: close contact.
Unless they were shaking hands and kissing random people before they were symptomatic, the probability of infecting someone else is minimal.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

Or it could be that nothing grows exponentially forever, exponential growth is usually just the very beginning of the S-shaped curve.

Or it could mean the Chinese authorities are no longer able to keep up with the numbers. Suspected cases in China went from 8k to 12k. 50%

Faye: Ordinary. The kind of beautiful, dangerous ordinary that you just can't leave alone.
Jet: I see.

It's spread by droplet at least.

Maybe we* will get lucky and the draconian measures taken by the Chinese along with the increasing global co-operation will be enough to halt this new illness.

That's what worries me the most (and worried my Chinese colleagues). The fact that the Chinese Gov - who always wants to keep a lid on any internal crisis and downplay it - is so visibly losing their shit over this means it's probably bigger than they are letting on.

QuoteI think it will help to accelerate the return of jobs to North America.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

Unless the virus takes out computers probably not.

Semiconductor fabs are less automated than it seems. They also cost 4-5 billions$ to build. But, I guess, if 900 millions Chinese die there might be an opportunity.

Yes America will definitely only benefit from its largest trading partner stopping its foreign trade because of a deadly epidemic.

Less trade = more jobs

Nothing at all to do with automation.

Milhares de estrangeiros estão retidos na cidade chinesa de Wuhan, onde a epidemia começou, e que está isolada há uma semana.

WHO just declared it an international public health emergency

QuoteA declaration of a public health emergency of international concern — known as a PHEIC in WHO jargon — is rare. Only five have been declared in the past decade: The H1N1 virus that caused an influenza pandemic in 2009, West Africa's Ebola outbreak, polio in 2014, Zika virus in 2016 and the ongoing Ebola outbreak in Congo

So is it possible the real numbers are not published? Or is it normal to declare a flu that kills 180 elderly in a city of 11 million an international emergency?
