Languish and charity

I've never really regularly gave to charity. I always had the excuse that I was closer to needing to be a receiver than a giver.
Though now things are different  I really should do my moral duty et al.

Plus I've learned of bank accounts with favourable interest rates if you do setup a certain number of direct debits a month...and £5 a month to a charity qualifies for this.

Anyhoo.

What of languishites.
Do you give to charity?
Which?
Why?
For how long?

Putting cash in you own kid's education fund most definitely is not "charity".

Well I didn't just say "yes" now did I?

But it's giving money for the benefit of another person, so it sort-of counts.  And yes it's in a RESP.

Heh a big part of the whole point of earning money is to use it for your own kids ... I definitely do not count that as "charity" in my mind.  Neither is the cash I spend on my wife.

Wise. Tax deferral AND some matching funds! Pretty sweet deal.

I aim for a fixed percentage of income, before taxes. Mostly regular donations, and a few one-off things.
I usually review my charity picks once a year and make a few changes.

They include Amnesty, a refugee charity, some environmental and third world aid charities, and the local shelter.
