So, what are the immigration rules for Finland? :hmm:
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

Worth looking into any Irish or Italian heritage you have. For historical reasons those countries have the most generous citizenship rights for children of the diaspora (including me :goodboy:) and then you'd have EU citizenship :)

I think I could be happy in Finland; the national mentality would suit me fine, I think. :P

However, I fear the language would be a major hinderance.
I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops.

I like the idea of most of Scandinavia. But my idea is that they all have summer houses by the lakes, high class design in their homes and attractive knitwear for the winter. This may be me romanticising based solely on Nordic Noir TV shows

I have neither Irish nor Italian heritage. :( My great-grandfather came over from Wales. My grandmother came over from Germany (but she was my mom's stepmom, does that count?). My only chance at an easy European transition involves owning property in Spain.

That being said, I haven't actually looked at the Irish requirements recently. :hmm:

I think Germany's difficult because their system generally doesn't like dual citizenship. Welsh ancestry doesn't help much - Brexit etc. I think for Ireland it basically goes as far back as if you have a grandparent who was born on the island of Ireland (or, someone who had Irish citizenship - e.g. an Irish-American grandparent who had citizenship because of their grandparent etc).

Finns are pretty awesome yes. At uni some of my best friends with Finns. A lot more laid back than the upper class swedes.
Though if I moved there I would totally be the awkward guy who studies Swedish instead of Finnish.

My Great-Great Grandparents were born in Ireland so I looked into it...but unfortunately it kind of ends with grandparents, they have to be born in Ireland. So my grandmother could have gotten Irish Citizenship but not me. Not that I would ever leave Texas, no matter how stupidly right wing things get they won't get rid of me this is my home damnit I am going to stay here and provide one D vote every couple years.

But I was curious you know? :P

Yeah. But once someone gets it, it's also children of Irish citizens (at the time of birth), so it can carry on basically forever which is I think one of the most generous rights of citizenship by descent.
