ne of U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's leading advisers, Dan Caldwell, was escorted from the Pentagon on Tuesday after being identified during an investigation into leaks at the Department of Defense, a U.S. official told Reuters.
Caldwell was placed on administrative leave for "an unauthorized disclosure," the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity. The decision has not been previously reported.

Maybe. But we haven't had an election where he has gotten over 50% of the vote yet. The polls seem to have his support around 46% or so. That seems reasonable.

From what I'm reading, a significant portion of the plurality that voted for this are starting to have a bit of buyer's remorse.  Whether that remorse gets strong enough to outweigh "fuck the libs" remains to be seen.  People motivated by irrational hatred of the other tend to, well, behave irrationally.

I think the scary part of this is that ultimately all the doomers were right. You can literally set up concentration camps in this country and send people there forever and most people will be in favor of it so long as the economy remains strong. A smart version of Trump could easily just become dictator.

The mob of vile monstrous people who want to destroy everybody who doesn't perfectly conform to what they think of as a valuable human being are unlikely to be sated just because Trump turns out to suck. What I'm worried about is that they aren't incompetent enough to swing support away from them until it's too late.  There are people in the wings who are a lot more competent than Trump in everything except the populist bullshit. If Trump can keep enough of the core placated until they can find something less populist to anchor on, or someone who can wield the populist mantle effectively enough, or even just complete the transition to a true police state, before people turn on him we're fucked.

Unfortunately, I think the purposeful cruelty being introduced into the system is keeping enough people in line.  MAGAts seem to be willing to tolerate the leopards nibbling at their faces so long as the leopards are ripping the heads off the undesirables.

Well that is the thing. If the American Right is in favor of this so long as nothing bad happens to them personally then what chance do we have of this country not going to shit? We cannot hold them off forever.

I had a good laugh when you thought BB was being empathetic.  He is the one that took the position the Conservatives should play "footsie with fascists" in Canada to defeat the LPC. As I recall he was quite critical of my saying they shouldn't - going so far as to accuse me of being a Progress Conservative.  I am not sure I have recovered from the mental distress of having that label attached to me.   

I don't think it was meant so much as a burn as bad political advice.
