Any suggestions for what Hulk Hogan's position will be?

Could we also get doctor Phil in the mix?

Don't give him any ideas...

...

Actually screw that.  What would be the perfect position in a Trump administration for Holk Hogan or Dr Phil (who, doing some googling, has said favourable things about Trump).

Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports for Hogan?  It was previously held by both Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno, but that might be too basic for Trump.

How about Under Secretary of the Navy - I mean Hogan's from Florida after all and once starred in a TV show featuring a boat.

As for Doctor Phil - I mean that's hardly even a stretch given that he's already appointed Dr Oz to a position.

That being said - he made the ultimate sin in Trump-world - he apologized (mostly) for endorsing Trump.

But still - what position could he get?  Maybe a nice ambassadorship?

Nah - after googling - he could head up the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) .

I don't know really what is worst, the apparent morons nominated, or that it will last four years. Gimme some old-fashioned Republican conservatives. Please? I'd even accept Newt Gingrich.

Next up will be nominating Robert E. Lee for something. "Never fight uphill".

I pity the cats of Springfield being eaten, but FFS.

Congrats, USA! You won. You do idiocy even better than Europe.

Quote from: The Minsky Moment on November 20, 2024, 05:10:25 PMI remember when Nancy Mace was first elected and tried to portray herself as an emerging voice of independent minded, tough but sensible conservatism.  Now she's known for her erratic behavior, bizarre publicity stunts, her abuse of her own staff, and now petty bullshit like micromanaging Capitol toilet facilities.

That's actually sounds like what happened to the Right itself.

You forgot the "me boys," that's the best part.  Trump thinks that Robert E Lee is the leprechaun from the old Lucky Charms ads.  Maybe FDA for him?

The Minsky Moment

Former Acting AG and general dickwad Matthew Whittaker nominated for NATO Ambassador.  His qualifications for the post are that he you know and stuff and things like that.

Maybe deep down Trump is just a frustrated TV critic and wants to bury all satire for good?
"We have it in our power to begin the world over again"

On the bright side, the ambassador to Canada looks to be a reasonable pick.

There is a theory that Trump is placing people in positions that he really cares about based on loyalty and is skewing towards traditional Republican appointments for areas he doesn't care about.

I kinda like that he is signalling he doesn't care about Canada.  I'm quite happy to be well outside of his attention for the next four years.

The Minsky Moment

The one pick he appears to taking care over is Treasury.  That's because he is just smart enough to understand that a bad pick could cause the markets to turn against him.

Problem is that he is looking for someone who will sign off on indiscriminate tariffs, huge unfunded tax cuts, and also have credibility with the markets.  It does not appear that this rare chimera exists in the wild.

For the same reason I think that he does care somewhat about the Canadian ambassador - he knows that the US exports a lot with Canada and that export and imports tend be fairly balanced. He knows he is going to be causing a lot of waves over trade and wants someone there that can smooth things over when the USMCA comes up for review next year.

This assumes that men and women are "supposed" to look like a certain standard, which is a very problematic notion. Can you clearly define what a man should look like? Are men who don't look like that not actually men?

I am with you, but then how can someone "present" as a particular gender if there are no rules for how a gender should look like and behave? In fact what is the point of changing genders if society gives you a free pass to dress and behave in whatever way you want regardless of your gender?

The point is that everyone has their own idea of how they want to pass or not pass as a particular gender. The government should not be imposing rules on this.

I'm very interested in what will happen with the tariffs. If he imposes them as he said in his campaign  then it seems a major recession, perhaps even a depression, is inevitable. But that will alienate all his wealthy allies, so will the tariffs be watered down and mainly imposed on China? I have no idea but am holding my stocks so i guess my subconscious has a theory  ;)

I have heard (hopium?) this would be largely on physical good so even if they're universal the UK should mostly be OK....
Sigh.
