I thought he was recently saying that low gas prices were great for the economy and now he is saying how great higher gas prices will be for the economy. Ah well.

That's why he's president and you're not.
Women want me. Men want to be with me.

The Minsky Moment

Lower prices are generally better but if they are too low, the Texas producers go to the wall.  So the US as a producer-consumer nation benefits if prices are moderate and stable but not super low.  But delivering the kind of semi-complex message is beyond Trump's capabilities, plus his following doesn't care if he says two contradictory things at the same time.
The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists.

The Texas producers are very skilled at riding out low prices and milking high prices. It has kind of been their necessary skill over the past 50 years. The state provides plenty of support for their business.

Do I read this correctly that this guy hasn't been a judge till, oh, last year?

Yes and despite practicing in "commercial litigation" he never tried a case.  As in never was on a trial team in any capacity.

When confirmed he will immediately join the short list for the next Supreme Court pick.  The lack of experience is a major plus for the Tumpers - it means his ideological vigor is unsullied by the practicalities that arise from the long experience of professional practice. It also means he will last much longer on the Court.

And that's why e.g. Germany (and probably most countries) have pretty clear rules on education and experience for people wanting to become judges.

@Syt: To be fair, about half of our constitutional judges do not have experience as judges before their nomination either. They are professors of law in universities instead. I guess for the types of questions a super appellate court decides, theoretical knowledge of the law might be sufficient.

QuoteSenator Charles E. Schumer
United States Senator
Washington, D.C.  20515

Dear Senator Schumer:

Thank you for your Democrat public relations letter and incorrect sound bites, which are wrong in every way.

1. As you are aware, Vice President Pence is in charge of the Task Force. By almost all accounts, he has done a spectacular job.

2. The Defense Production Act (DPA) has been consistently used by my team and me for the purchase of billions of dollars' worth of equipment, medical supplies, ventilators, and other related items. It has been powerful leverage, so powerful that companies generally do whatever we are asking, without even a formal notice.  They know something is coming, and that's all they need to know.

3. A "senior military officer" is in charge of purchasing, distributing, etc. His name is Rear Admiral John Polowczyk.  He is working 24 hours a day, and is highly respected by everyone.  If you remember, my team gave you this information, but for public relations purposes, you choose to ignore it.

4. We have given New York many things, including hospitals, medical centers, medical supplies, record numbers of ventilators, and more. You should have had New York much better prepared than you did, and as Dr. Fauci and Dr. Birx said yesterday, New York was very late in its fight against the virus.  As you are aware, the Federal Government is merely a back-up for state governments.  Unfortunately, your state needed far more of a back-up than most others.

If you spent less time on your ridiculous impeachment hoax, which went haplessly on forever and ended up going nowhere (except increasing my poll numbers), and instead focused on helping the people of New York, then New York would not have been so completely unprepared for the "invisible enemy." No wonder AOC and others are thinking about running against you in the primary. If they did, they would likely win.

Fortunately, we have been working with your state and city governments, Governor Andrew Cuomo and Mayor Bill DeBlasio, to get the job done.  You have been missing in action, except when it comes to the "press."  While you have stated that you don't like Andrew Cuomo, you ought to start working alongside him for the good of all New Yorkers.

I've known you for many years, but I never knew how bad a Senator you are for the state of New York, until I became President.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call.  Or, in the alternative, call Rear Admiral Polowczyk.

Sincerely yours,

Donald J. Trump

How long can the admiral keep going under this work schedule?

Acting Secretary of the Navy Moody informed the crew of the Theodore Roosevelt that Captain Croizer was stupid or naive and his actions constituted a "betrayal".
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Same here. Requisite is 15 years of experience with the law, and teaching law at a university qualifies.

Our equivalent to a federal appelate court does require 15 years of being a judge, though, but there are (few) slots reserved for "law professionals of demonstrated prestige".

True. I guess you could argue that atthat level the discussion becomes academic. :P ;)
