How about paying the workers more, then? That might make them better off.

Indeed.  Average German auto workers get the equivalent of US$67/hour, compared to the US $33/hr average, and yet Germany makes and sells twice as many cars as the US. https://www.forbes.com/sites/frederickallen/2011/12/21/germany-builds-twice-as-many-cars-as-the-u-s-while-paying-its-auto-workers-twice-as-much/#28dbc1396b78

I don't think paying the average worker more makes for better products. There are, of course, keys positions where you want to attract and retain talent. But they don't make up for the lion's share of labor costs.

My personal experience, having worked for both German and American companies, leads me to think that the difference lies in shareholder composition. A lot of German manufacturers and their suppliers are family businesses. VW AG or BMW to name the two biggest examples. These families are interested in the long term.
Companies where ownership is diluted will, on the other hand, be probably more interested in increasing short-term shareholder value (and bonuses!). This is what happens at my employer, and we waste craploads of money as a result. We all know it's going to happen and how to fix it, but there's nothing we can do against corporate policy. It's all we can do not to facepalm when we see the quarterly reports.

Turns out Moore was actually banned from a local Alabama mall and YMCA because he kept hitting on teenage girls

McConnell says Moore should withdraw.  Roy fires back McConnell should resign because he doesn't represent conservative values.

Shame they don't treat the office of the Presidency with the same amount of respect as they do the Senate.

I wonder if the promise to expel Moore if he is elected a genuine defense of Senate honor, or a way to keep the seat Republican without keeping Moore?

What are the chances he owns a white panel van?
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

I wonder why all this stuff didn't come out during the primary.

QuoteCorfman described her story consistently in six interviews with The Post. The Post confirmed that her mother attended a hearing at the courthouse in February 1979 through divorce records. Moore's office was down the hall from the courtroom.

Neither Corfman nor any of the other women sought out The Post. While reporting a story in Alabama about supporters of Moore's Senate campaign, a Post reporter heard that Moore allegedly had sought relationships with teenage girls. Over the ensuing three weeks, two Post reporters contacted and interviewed the four women. All were initially reluctant to speak publicly but chose to do so after multiple interviews, saying they thought it was important for people to know about their interactions with Moore. The women say they don't know one another.

"I have prayed over this," Corfman says, explaining why she decided to tell her story now. "All I know is that I can't sit back and let this continue, let him continue without the mask being removed."
This account is based on interviews with more than 30 people who said they knew Moore between 1977 and 1982, when he served as an assistant district attorney for Etowah County in northern Alabama, where he grew up.

It is a bit disturbing that some voters still support this guy.

Disturbing? Yes.  Surprising?  Not at all.

Let's be completely fair here: Bill Clinton was still liked by most that were inclined to like him, long after anyone with an ounce of brain had to know that he abused his power to sexually abuse women.  It is natural in polarizing times to stick with the bastards on your side, and be in denial about it if that helps.  I find it less explicable that people would vote for Moore to begin with, but once you're that fucked up, nothing else really matters.

Bill Clinton's acquittal on impeachment charges in the United States Senate wasn't exactly a speeding ticket, DCossack.  It's a stain on the office of the Presidency ensconced in American history.

Roy Moore should meet McConnell on the playground after school. Roy is going to be there anyways.
