The Minsky Moment

I thought 538 was a lot more circumspect than most sites in predicting the election results.  Didn't they give HIllary something like a 60% chance of winning, while other places gave her a 99% chance?

A little higher (71%) but yes they basically got the election right.  Top three tipping point states were Florida, Pennsylvania, and Michigan.
It's also true that Silver was a baseball analyst before dabbling in politics.

Gorsuch is a really solid nominee

Gorsuch is terrible.  He is even tempered, has a good "pedigree" and doesn't drool on camera.  But his actual judicial opinions are full of disturbing wackiness.

Are you referring just to his, or the ones he plagiarized?

The reality is that the filibuster is dead. Whether it died now or later, the GOP were going to kill it. Might as well get it out of the way now and make it clear how the GOP rolls, keeping it closer to their intransigence re: Garland.

You do know the Dems used the nuclear option in 2013, right?

Oh did they? Then why is it controversial now?

Maybe I don't understand what the Nuclear Option is. I guess I figured once you used it then it could not be undeployed. If it is just something you can use and nobody notices or remembers it does not strike me as particularly nuclear :hmm:

The Dems got rid of the filibuster in 2013 over lesser judicial appointments - they kept it in for USSC positions.

Even now the Republicans are keeping the filibuster for legislation.

Ah ok.

Well that will be gone soon.

Yes, it is controversial because each step means it'll then be that last vestige removed.

AFAIK, the Senate can change its rules whenever it likes.  If they want to bring back the filibuster, they can.  And then if they want to remove it again for certain circumstances, they can.

Gowdy rules and the Red Sox are gonna suck this year.

According to 538 the Sox have the best starting 5 in the American League.

And they also said Hillary would win.

So did everyone else, but they were more positive about Trump's chances than any other site.

I don't think they picked it. Trump is to toxic to compromise with. They don't have the guts or leadership to take a stand without being forced by external factors.

What was more pathetic than the filibuster attempt IMO is that the Dems could not really enunciate any solid reason to not confirm Gorsuch.

The solid reason is that it should have been filled by Garland a year ago.

Just Exhibit #3,845 in the nonstop delegitimization of Obama's presidency.  That boy refused to know his place, and sometimes you just have to beat the uppity out of them, or they start thinking they're white.

People seem to be forgetting that the GOP used the filibuster more times during the Obama Administration than all previous administrations combined. In history. Ever.

So maybe now that the White House is negro-free, and a Real Man That Grabs Pussytm is in the Oval Office instead of a Filthy Dirty Cunt, we don't really need the filibuster at all anymore.
