"It's an unbelievably complex subject. Nobody knew health care could be so complicated."

Wait a minute.  This was from the sane speech?

Berkut

I don't think Trump has any sane speeches.

The AIPAC speech during the campaign was pretty sane.

we've always known trump is loose with words. it's dishonest to pick out particularly statements and focus on the literal meaning of the words to argue trump meant to convey what the literal meaning suggests

Unfair to call him out on his lies?  Disagree.  The fact that he lies constantly is not a defense of any particular lie.

some people are going to see his comments as lies, while others will see his comments as him being exaggerating/whatever. people will likely adopt interpretations of his comments that conform with how they view him. bias gonna bias

But Trump says "Nobody knew" because HE didn't know.  And because his mental world is built around a solipsism so pure and unadulterated that in his mind, if he doesn't know, no one else knows.  His discovery is the world's discovery.

The combination of ignorance and self-absorption never fails to boggle the mind.

He's a different kind of celebrity, but in the end, he's still a celebrity that's been living in his own bubble for decades, creating his own reality that is reinforced by a small group of family and clingers.  No different than, say, Elvis or Prince.

Congratulations, America.  You elected Michael Jackson.

media used to comment that in the wide spectrum of trump supporters, people saw pictures him in many different ways depending on the individual supporter's views. that was true, but ya know, it's also true for the wide spectrum of his opponents.

Sure.  There's always been that biased few that will see deliberate untruths as mere "exaggerations," while the rest see them as lies.  Bias is gonna bias.

Remember "death panels?"  Some people are stupid enough to think they existed under Obama, because bias is gonna bias.

There is no way this is stated in good faith.

I'm trying to think of a way to view that second sentence as an exaggeration that doesn't reflect discredit on Donald, and not having much luck.

One or two people didn't realize how complex it was?

Any suggestions?

Oh, you mean the DACA'd up kid who had been submitting her paperwork every two years like clockwork?  The one who was only "illegal" because the gubmint was dragging their heels on approving her reapplication?  If this was a white gun nut with an expired CCW permit, you'd be screaming about entrapment.

Um, no.  The Chris Hayes impersonator let her status lapse.

QuoteDACA status lapsed
Vargas said she arrived in the United States with her family at age 7 as an undocumented immigrant from Argentina and later was granted DACA status, which lasts two years.
Her attorney, Abby Peterson, said Vargas' DACA status expired in November. She could not immediately afford the minimum $495 renewal application fee, Peterson said, and put off the process until last month. The government recommends DACA recipients apply for a renewal between 150 and 120 days before their status expires.

"it was more complex than I thought" or something along those lines
