I applaud the sentiment but most of those tweets are pretty juvenile.  Is there something about the tweet media form that pushes users towards imbecility?

It's hard to be profound in 140 characters.  Which is what makes it the perfect medium for Trump.

so, could these acts shaving off US expenses amount to enough to prevent increasing the deficit if he, for example, lowers taxes on corporations?

I'm pretty sure a significant decrease in the corporate tax rate would be several orders of magnitude larger than the savings from a non-uniformed federal hiring freeze.

The Minsky Moment

A hiring freeze is showmanship.  Metaphorical drop in the bucket.

woah woah

I didn't necessarily mean a significant decrease, unless that's the current plan in the trump administration. I meant whatever he's likely to do. I also meant the totality of all the acts saving cash -- the abortion ban ($600 mil), etc. though, I have no idea how much cash these little acts, once all is said and done, will free up

I thought I was pretty profound in my email to Grassley.  :)

When you reread your own posts are they comprehensible?

The Minsky Moment

The big $ are in entitlements and national security (including vets benefits).  If you don't touch those, it's hard to make a serious dent.

The stuff that has been announced so far is penny ante.  All for show.

Already seen some reqs getting pulled, and for the ones that are active, if they didn't have their start dates identified with their prehire paperwork already in the can, candidates are getting "we'll call you when this whole thing blows over".

I have been LOL'ing quietly to myself.

Are you still a temp, Seedy?

Aren't we all temps in the greater scheme of things?

No

Quote from: Valmy on January 25, 2017, 02:09:19 PMWell the article quotes says both of those things. That the way it is being done is crazy and unprecedented.

I'm sure it does say that

Well you can read it right here in this thread. It is not very long.

I don't usually reread my posts

I'm wondering whether it's possible the trump administration is doing things like banning international abortion funding to free up cash for some reason. $600 million is pretty much nothing, but if enough cuts equals 10-50 billion or more...

And doing a hiring freeze when most of the appiontees are not even in place yet does make some sense.

but, if a worthwhile impact to the US economy would cost at least 500 billion or so, then nm. I guess unless it's to fund the wall, but probably more for show as minsky suggested

MadImmortalMan

Yeah, it's not for the money.

I'm guessing the wall funding will be something along the lines of a tax on Mexican remittances or somesuch.
