They still need to learn the concept after seeing 43 examples over two months?  :hmm:  Might want to cut your losses and move on to another topic by now.

Ooh!  An almost-but-not-quite strawman argument!  I'll use this to help them distinguish between strawman arguments and unwarranted assumptions.  Thanks.

When you start at 20%, you have a lot of negotiating room.

I don't know, when you start that big you have to stay big or it looks like you lost. And to someone with trumps ego appearances matter more than facts.

He will just deny every having started there.  When the clips are produced he will denounce the lying media.

I've been stuck (actually still stuck till tomorrow night with dial up) Summation of this week shit show?

One of the most significant things to happen in the past week is that the US and UN backed Libyan government, having suppressed the ISIS jihadis in the country, found itself under attack from a rogue warlord general sponsored by . . . Russia.  If hostilities continue it will likely disrupt oil exports, putting upward pressure on oil prices - which is likely the reason why Russia is backing the regional warlord in the first place.

The Trump administration's response to development was to unleash a fusillade of rhetorical threats against one of America's most important allies (Mexico), make derogatory comments to another (Germany), and threaten to bleed American cities of federal funds. Of course, his secretary of state appointee is sympathetic to both Russia and high oil prices, so even if he had a foreign policy team in place, most likely nothing would have happened anyway.

You should add Trump is due to report back to control on Saturday:

Sanctions on table ahead of US-Putin call

President Donald Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will speak by telephone on Saturday, according to the White House and the Kremlin.

The two world leaders are expected to discuss bilateral affairs and national security in the first call since Mr Trump's inauguration.

Mr Trump has also hinted at lifting some of the US sanctions on Russia.

He will also speak to German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande on the same day.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the phone call between Mr Trump and Mr Putin, but said it was unlikely to result in any specific agreements.

"This is the first contact by phone since President Trump assumed office so it is hardly likely there will be substantive contact on all issues. Let's be patient," he said.

There was a reason why Obama, in his last 72 hours as President, ordered two B2 stealth bombers from Missouri to fly non-stop to Libya drop 108 munitions, and fly back.  He wasn't sending a message just to Libyan jihadis.

QuoteGerman Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang spoke out in favor of closer trade ties, signaling a global alliance opposed to the protectionist agenda of U.S. President Donald Trump.

Li and Merkel talked by phone on Wednesday and addressed "bilateral and multilateral issues," according to German government spokesman Steffen Seibert. He said that Li accepted the chancellor's invitation to visit Germany for more comprehensive talks on economic and trade issues.

"The two spoke in favor of free trade and a stable world trade order," Seibert said in a statement. He added that "the negotiations over a European-Chinese investment accord should come to a successful completion quickly."

The call between the leaders of the world's No. 1 and No. 3 exporters suggests global battle lines are being drawn over free trade just as Trump scraps a long-negotiated trade pact with Pacific nations and escalates protectionist rhetoric.

What would be absolutely hilarious at this stage, is a China-EU trade alliance that would shut non-EU countries, like Global Britain, out.

America fucked with them first. They are/were our closest allies. But we will teach a powerful lesson to any nation stupid enough to ally and depend on us.

if germany wants to try another relationship out and see how it works in the long term, that's fine. let the alliance between the democratic germany and authoritarian china flourish.

I think that former US allies will seek powerful allies to protect them from the Trump administration's hostility.  Germany doesn't need China for the long term, it just needs China for so long as Trump lasts.  That's a far more rational policy than Trump's "Let's make an enemy of everyone except our real enemy" approach.

Even if it hurts America? Because you like stuff that makes life harder and opportunities fewer for our citizens?
