In Otto's defence he did preface his observations by saying, " Sitting in a position of economic privilege it's not something I super well understand."

And generally agree with his comment that the main issue has been the cost of housing.  When so much of a family income is devoted to that necessity, other price increases feel dramatically more impactful.

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

There was this Guardian article about progressive big city mayors worldwide striving for the kind of societal reforms society (supposedly) needs. Made me think it neatly fits to the return of the norm of many centuries, where the middle class shores up cities defending their independence from the aristorcary that rules the country through a hold on the larger populace largely using a fake version of reality (fake news and made up scandals nowadays, religion back then).

I suppose I notice it in practical things...in my case, when I go grocery shopping I almost always do a basket instead of a cart.  A basket of the stuff I usually get used to be about ~$40-50 a couple years ago.  Now it teeters on ~$80-100.

(note:  I've also noticed in moving from CA back to WA, that prices are much higher up here)

Just heard a retired USN JAG Captain today explain that the Navy can't recall and court-martial a retired member except for crimes committed while still on active duty.  Prosecuting Mark Kelly would lead to yet another legal black eye for the administration, and almost immediately after the effort starts..
The future is all around us, waiting, in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.   -G'Kar

Hegseth already backed off on the recall/court-martial...though with another implausible tactic that should fail for the same legal criteria.

You guys need to do some regime-change on yourselves.

Should be easy, thanks to the 2nd Amendment. :P

I think the context is rising economic inequality. Economic growth is pretty feeble, meanwhile, for many of us, 2025 was a bumper year. The corollary is that people without a good position in real estate and stocks are finding it harder and harder. With electorates swinging right in response it is hard to be optimistic that there will be any improvement in the near future.

Yeah, that is certainly an exacerbating factor

Right, and based on the demo of our forum here--none of us are truly young anymore, some like grumbler are in their 80s, I assume most of us have been investing in stocks for decades and it builds upon itself. There's certain people, particularly in generations that got fucked by the Great Recession right as their working lives began, that missed an early in life accumulation period, which has negative effects basically forever because you miss out on the extra years of capital growth.

Yeah, and as much as I like to complain about how easy everything was for Boomers, including the accumulation of wealth, we had it much easier compared to the following generations.

Raz very poor.  Never accumulated any wealth.  2025 was very hard on him.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

I just want to make sure I understand your post - ICE killed a woman (or multiple women) taking their kids to school?
