What does a TRUMP presidency look like?

The Minsky Moment

All three of these stories popped up on the internet recently. One of them is true.

1. Trump called for a criminal investigation of Bruce Springsteen for calling himself the Boss despite not being President.
2. Trump called for a criminal investigation of Bruce Springsteen for violating campaign finance laws because he performed music at a Harris rally.
3. Trump called for a criminal investigation of Bruce Springsteen for fraudulent advertising because he could not prove through his birth certificate that he was born in the USA.

It's impossible to detect the satire when the reality is virtually indistinguishable.
We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

This is satire, not news.

It's something we could totally picture the Trump administration saying seriously.

Zanza

Today Trump showed the South African president a video about "white genocide" in South Africa. Similar vibes as the Selenskiy thing in February.

I guess the lesson here must be that you better just don't visit Trump at all as a foreign dignitary who is not 100% Trumpist.

While I wouldn't consider what is going on South Africa, the definition of genocide is pretty broad.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

There is no genocide, no ethnic cleansing in Palestine, absolutely nothing is going on, but the door is open in South Africa.

Sounds logical.
I don't do meditation.  I drink alcohol to relax, like normal people.

If Microsoft Excel decided to stop working overnight, the world would practically end.

The door is open in Palestine, South Africa opened it.  As CC said, the UN Convention on Genocide rules, and it is very broad.

No, I pointed out that you don't understand the meaning of the word, and I see that has not changed.

You refused to elaborate.  You said that UN convention on genocide "rules", and I'm very interested in it "ruling" in the future.  Maybe on China or Saudi Arabia.  I'm sure charges are coming down the pipe on those two.  Any day now...

On at least three occasions, I have quoted the UN convention definition.  I don't know what more I can do to try to help you understand, and so I have simply stopped trying.

Yes, you quoted me the UN convention but refused to elaborate how it applies.  I suggested several places where it could be applied, and you said it didn't but refused to say why.

No, I tried a few times. And it's this sort of bad faith argument that made me give up trying to engage with you.

They Republicans are doing more long-term harm to the American economy, but more importantly, the fundament of American success, the American bond market. Yields are increasing again because of the concern over the American deficit and debt.  This isn't something that can be fixed quickly or maybe at all.

You wouldn't explain it to Tyr either.

Yeah. There is no telling how much more damage that will be done before the disastrous ideas of the Republican Party finally become discredited. It is all very depressing. I only hope that in the end a better future is the result.

The US state department made a determination in 2021 that the PRC is committing genocide against the Uighurs, one of the rare points of agreement between the Biden and Trump administrations. Several other governments announced similar conclusions, including parliamentary resolutions in Canada, the UK, France and the Netherlands.

Charges are not coming down the pipe through the United Nations vs the PRC because they have enough influence with member states to block them.  That is a political reality but not a conceptual fault with the definition of genocide.

I'm not sure what the basis for a genocide charge against Saudi Arabia would be under the UN definition.

The UN definition clearly does not support a genocide charge vs South Africa.
