I'd be fine with the US joining the Commonwealth, as long as the President is replaced by a Governor General.

QuoteBut there is a possible reason Mr. Musk might have needed to know aspects of the war plan. If Mr. Musk and his team of cost cutters from the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, want to trim the Pentagon budget in a responsible way, they may need to know what weapons systems the Pentagon plans to use in a fight with China.

I so fucking hate this naive elitist attitude of wanting to explain the obviously sinister away. Been suffering it with the a Hungarian press for at least 20 years now.

I so fucking hate this intellectually bankrupt Manichean attitude that anything your opponent does must be the purest, darkest evil.

In some cases yes, but this administration is doing its damnedest to eliminate the benefit of the doubt though

Musk wouldn't pass the security check to work as a janitor at the office part of a nuclear facility. Giving him access to classified information is malicious.

It was true in his first term and far from the only example but the NYT is intellectually incapable of dealing with the world right now. For my both sides-ism, I think that's also true of the various "we can now reveal" stories about Biden's mental capacity. The world is disappointing the NYT and they're struggling it.

You deserve the country you currently have

It's fucking infuriating remembering what I had to do for my clearances while watching this drug-addled manbaby gaining access to some of the most sensitive areas of our government.  I'm glad the Air Force (and hopefully the other services, as well as the intelligence community and the DOE) had the good sense to keep him away from the really sensitive stuff.

It's not journalistically responsible to postulate potential good faith motives when those motives are inherently implausible and there is no factual basis to support them.  It's just as bad as imputing bad faith without sufficient factual basis.

There also has to be a recognition of a pattern of behavior when a clear pattern has manifested.

Which inherently implausible motives are we talking about in this particular case?  Presumably it's not reducing government expenditure.

Yeah and if someone is making that argument the journalistically responsible thing to do is to identify even anonymously the source of that briefing: "Pentagon sources say", "sources close to Mr Musk" etc - not to disguise it in the voice of the NYT by spitballing.
