It feels surreal that the US forcefully taking Canada is a not completely unlikely scenario at the moment. I'm holding hope that Trump's ambition will be stopped before it comes to it, but still ...

There is no point in trying to make sense of anything the man says; it's literally like trying to interpret the ramblings of a crazy street bum.  On the one hand, we need tariffs because Canadian gangs are funneling massive quantities of fentanyl across the border, and the only way to stop them is to require them to fill out customs paperwork. On the other hand, the problem will be solved if Canada becomes a state because death by illegal drugs is perfectly fine as long as the drugs are distributed domestically.
The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists.

How bad does the economy have to be before MAGA turns in him? Great depression 2? The rich have a longer to fall but eventually they have to get tired, right?

At this point if Canada is fucked anyway they might as well go full hog. Tariff potash, oil, other and raw materials. They'll get other suppliers, but not fast. Hell, with potash, Canada produces more then Russia and Belarus combined (number 2 and 3) and it's a hell of a lot more expensive to ship. South America gets theirs from Russia, and Canada's could be a good replacement. I know it's wishful thanking, and destructive, but damn.

If it came to a military conflict, it would be over in less than 24 hours.  Most of our active armed forces are in Latvia.  But even if they were here, it would be trivially easy for US forces to occupy Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax, and if they wanted for symbolic purposes, Ottawa. At that point the war is over.

As far as aid from Europe, nope - that has to cross the Atlantic, and the US could easily stop that.

We would be the new Poland (or worst case Czechoslovakia)
