The other point is worrying about a brain drain from the US isn't really the problem the US now faces. The main problem the US now faces is how is the US going to attract the talented people it used to reliably attract to immigrate to the United States.

The main goal of the Trumpists is to make the US unattractive to such people.

Universities and colleges have responded by raising tuition, but also by going on building sprees for shining new facilities, which means they are vulnerable when enrollment decreases. Community colleges remain vulnerable. Ivy League, meanwhile, will never want to hear about college solidarity, and - as the shameful display of political incompetence by their administrators showed - are woefully unprepared for the moment.

Generally speaking, academics were all good students who are not well-prepared to resist authority in meaningful ways. It's also why so many of my colleagues continue to pin their hopes to law suits. That's the orderly way to resist.

That strikes me as being a huge problem with the Democratic Party leadership as well.

That is a characteristic of college graduates.  There is a reason that employers prefer college graduates, even if they majored in something irrelevant to their jobs.  Someone who graduates college is a person who is punctual, rule-abiding, and willing to work long-hours for little personal gain.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Have you been spending lots of time with graduates from Chinese universities lately?
The purpose of studying economics is not to acquire a set of ready-made answers to economic questions, but to learn how to avoid being deceived by economists.

Nope.

If we are going to generalize, in my experience the generalization is the reverse. College undergraduate students are rarely punctual, if they even show up for class; break every rule they can, if the consequences don't prevent them from getting their degree; and complain bitterly if they are given even a modicum of work.

For that reason, I much prefer employing people who worked while they were in university or entered law school after working for a time.  People who have had to work and pay bills tend to be the ones who more closely align to what you have described.

It's not a problem if you believe AI will replace said workers.

The Brain

Is Rutte still being Baghdad Bob about US commitment to Nato? There is no fucking way Trump would go to war with Russia over a European Nato member being invaded.
Women want me. Men want to be with me.

Yeah, good point.
