Summary--- The House had a problem with their military budget bill: conservatives wouldn't vote for the bill unless it stripped funding for sexual reassignment surgeries, while moderates refused to agree to discriminate against trans people, and they couldn't pass it with moderates and democrats because democrats won't vote for it with funding for The Wall.

So Ryan asks Trump to make an executive order that the military won't cover the surgeries. Then it's not the House's problem. Trump seems to have misinterpreted that into kick out all Trans people. And now a lot of GOP senators have come out and condemned him for going too far.

FWIW, I don't think the military (and ultimately the taxpayers) should be asked to pay for any medical procedure/medication that's elective, be it gender reassignment, Viagra, or somebody wanting to get a millimeter bobbed off his or her nose for cosmetic purposes.  It's more the principle of the thing than the actual costs.

I also don't think the military should be paying $50 for a hammer, but that's a different issue.
