Discovering a journalist's source: yeah or nay?

Yeah. This is about a right of a journalist to refuse to disclose the source without facing prosecution. It's not like the police is prohibited from trying to discover this via other means.

I was giving them the benefit of the doubt, so long as the story was about cops fabricating evidence and spreading details of an investigation, but now...

It seems this all started in 2014, when a journalist started asking questions about a seemingly unpaid ticket that disapeared from the system, as it had been deleted.  Coderre, now mayor of Montreal, wanted to know who was leaking info about him.

Totally unethical to monitor journalists for such triviality.  I guess you can't expect much more from a Trudeau supporter.
