Tory majority of 68. Big breakthrough in the Midlands

But, you know, two weeks is a long time in politics

Edit: Also, Valmy  :console:

And apparently the tipping point back into a hung parliament is a Tory lead of 7 points instead of 11, which is closer than they'd probably like.

The medievals were only too right in taking nolo episcopari as the best reason a man could give to others for making him a bishop. Give me a king whose chief interest in life is stamps, railways, or race-horses; and who has the power to sack his Vizier (or whatever you care to call him) if he does not like the cut of his trousers.

Government is an abstract noun meaning the art and process of governing and it should be an offence to write it with a capital G or so as to refer to people.

Well, its dps who mentioned the soviets  :P Anyway, the most authoritarian examples of an ideology is the first place where one is likely to find bigotry. And yes, the SU, like in many things, had officially a bunch of good policies in respect to minorities that were there for propaganda purposes and not adhered much to, in reality.

Anyway, left wing parties aren't immune to bigotry. Much of the populist left is antiglobalisation, and from there it is a relatively short trip to nativism and antisemitism. That said, so far I have only witnessed it on the very fringes.

I've seen on the fringes here as well. When Rep. Omar made some comments that alluded to antisemitic canards Nancy Pelosi brought her to heel quick.  Trump tried to make use of this by claiming that Democrats are antisemitic.  Then he claimed that Jews who voted for Democrats were disloyal, which pretty much shot that political strategy in the foot.
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Awful lot of tories in Scotland. Find it hard to believe that if we had AV it would look the same up there. We really have to hope for more tactical voting.

And poor lib dems.... So much for taking the place of the sane tories.

It seems Farage dropping out may have been enough to win it for them. Did anything come of the former candidates he conned wanting to run anyway?

It is ridiculous that what dives Tory support is a desire to see a Tory-created mess end.

Hey man elections rarely go the way I would like anywhere in the world these days

If you are not a socialist or a right wing nationalist things are not likely to go your way.

If Johnson and his carefully selected band of crooks and idiots can win a majority of 67, then it will be high time Brits stop sneering at Americans for Trump.

Interesting. Seems there's quite a few Labour voters holding their noses and voting Tory to get Brexit over with. Corbyn might be out come next election and things will shift again.

Yeah, which is truly bizzare considering what Johnson is offering is not to get brexit over with but for several more years of the same. Only with the UK in a weakened position.
But... Marketing.

Can't really blame them for a grim determination to get this over with.

If Brexit happens it's just the start of dealing with Brexit.  It doesn't get anything over with.

People seem to think that the deal has already resolved all the issues, and just placing a signature will magically restore the Empire.
