QuoteLabour peers tell Corbyn: you have failed test of leadership

More than sixty Labour peers have taken out an advertisement accusing Jeremy Corbyn of having "failed the test of leadership" over his handling of antisemitism complaints within the party.

The peers, including more than a dozen former ministers such as Peter Hain, Beverley Hughes and John Reid, have addressed the advert in the Guardian to Corbyn directly, saying: "The Labour party welcomes everyone* irrespective of race, creed, age, gender identity, or sexual orientation. (*except, it seems, Jews). This is your legacy, Mr Corbyn."

Representing about a third of Labour's members in the House of Lords, the signatories told Corbyn the party was "no longer a safe place for all members" and claimed that thousands have resigned their membership "because of the toxic culture you have allowed to divide our movement".

The advert has been taken out amid a backlash within the party about the leadership's response to a BBC Panorama documentary that aired last week, in which eight former staff members accused the Labour of failing to tackle complaints about antisemitism properly and allowing Corbyn's office to get involved in disputes.

Once again the brexiters show that they just don't care anymore. They know they can get away with anything. As Farage proclaims 52% of the vote is invalid.

PMs vote to make the proroguing of parliament much harder:

Quote
Amendment passed comfortably... 315 to 274 - majority of 41 with lots of abstentions - Commons just made it harder, altho not impossible for hypothetical Johnson PM to suspend parliament

I don't see it happening but it would be an awesome twist to have the country saved by her maj.

I can't claim to grasp the nuances of British constitutional order, but that seems to me that it would spark a bit of a constitutional crisis. I guess, as the article says, it's more a threat to put pressure on the PM than anything else.

If the monarch did almost anything it could be called a constitutional crisis, but as I understand it the idea is for the Queen to intervene only if PM Bojo just tried to run out the clock on a no-deal brexit, rather than trying to secure any kind of commons vote.

But aren't there some rumors that the Queen is actually pro-Brexit?

I've not heard these.
I have heard a lot of rumours about her being anti-brexit though. Lots of subtext to speeches since the vote and interesting wardrobe choices for certain occasions

The entire premise makes no sense. The Tories fear Boris would sabotage negotiations to get No Deal? Huh? Are you kidding?

Unless Parliament signs the deal or there is a major shift in policy (referendum or GE) that is exactly what should happen regardless of what Boris does or says. The UK was given 6 extra months and they have done fuck all. It's time to rip off the fucking band-aid.

Seriously. Those who still think brexit is a good idea need to take a long hard look in the mirror. Fuck this shit.

I would think that anything but remaining or a leaving-in-name-only will see the almost total exodus of Japenese industry from the island. Japan has just signed a massive trade deal with the EU. Having your factories which serve the EU be located outside of both Japan and the EU after that seems like utter idiocy.

I've worked in the auto industry and have a pretty good understanding of just in time production systems. As I've said before most of the bits that go into cars assembled in Sunderland are actually made in the EU; it makes far more sense to move the assembly, the part Nissan do control, to the other side of the fence, than to try and convince a dozen companies to come and set up a new plant on your side (a side which they have no special attachment to).

Consider cities like Szczecin or Trnava have all the skills you need, lower costs, and will actively cover your costs of the move.... and its just logic.
I've been banging on about this for years, but people just don't want to know. It makes no sense.

I wonder if cutting back on vowels makes a city more competitive.

Any Japanese plant in Europe is in danger since the FTA was announced, though Brexit can hardly help (and a no-deal exit will wipe out the industry there).
