Just saw some sheep herders/farmers. They voted leave but they are really worried about what will happen next, and especially about losing their EU subsidies, on which their livelihood depends.

I am sorry but fuck these people. Just how fucking stupid can you be?!

Zanza

Subsidies? They should worry about demand.

90% of British lamb meat is sold to the EU27 and the EU27 levies a tariff of 46% on third countries, not to speak of missing phytosanitary checks as British certificates would no longer be admissible and there are no facilities in place in Dover or Calais to check this anymore.

They will be wiped out economically by a no deal Brexit.

I guess, sheeple is a fitting word here...

According to Trump, any post-Brexit trade deal with the UK will involve opening the NHS to private US companies.

So while those sheep farmers will lose business, at least they'll also go deeply in debt for treatment of any health issues.

Yeah if the UK thinks they had friends to help them out through this difficult transition they will be sorely mistaken.

See this is why farmers never get any respect.

No mention of the lack of temporary/season labour? I guess they are happy to pay more for fellow Brits. :)

The Larch

With the Brexit vote, logic and rational thinking went off the window. Many of the places in the UK that benefitted the most from EU subsidies voted Leave, including areas with primary industries that completely depended on the EU for their survival. I remember reading an article about some local authorities in, IIRC, Cornwall, saying that they expected the British government to keep paying for the PAC & other EU program subsidies that they were currently receiving.

I really got pissed because this is far from the first time I've heard such a thing. Like in county, maybe EDIT: it was Cronwall, Larch remembered, the majority voted Leave and then as soon as the reality of what that means started to sink in there was talk of the government compensating the farmers for the loss of subsidies and possible tariffs... What the actual fuck.

And there was of course this Uber driver one time, some Muslim-named dude who explained how he just HAD to vote Leave because the practice of giving incoming East Europeans free homes just had to stop because it was unfair.

This whole fucking thing is just a giant mess and triumph of ignorance and stupidity. The whole point of a representative democracy is that we have the buffer of MPs to protect us from EXACTLY the shit like this. And none of them, literally none of them has the guts to stand up and say this was a giant fucking mistake and we need to cancel it before it is too late. Even the "pro-Remainers" are gunning for a second referendum, which is as stupid a fucking gamble as the first was - it is almost impossible they would get a decisive win for either side, and absolutely fucking nothing would stop after it. Fuck!

I am sorry. This TV report really was the last straw for my nerves on Brexit.

Its facebook that is to blame.
This past decade the over 45s have started using it and so many of them just lack the basic digital literacy to question what you see on the internet. This leads to a lot of useful idiots believing and sharing any old bollocks.

As if rampant and totally fabricated EUphobia in British media started with the digital age.

True to an extent.
However the mainstream media have been banging that drum for decades and made little headway. When it comes down to it not that many people read the Daily Fail et al and watch Question Time.
With facebook you had crazy stories forced into everybody's lives.

Oh, sure, the Daily Heil is only your country's 2nd most circulated newspaper.

And yeah, EUphobia had such little headway amongst the British people until the digital age.... give me a break.

The data backs me up.
The top newspaper in the UK, The Scum, has a circulation of 1.4 million. Then you've 1.2 mil for the Fail, 0.3 for the express and so on. This is only a small amount of the population.

Yougov have been conducting polls on what issues people care about for a long time. The EU has rarely cracked beyond the mid teens, and then only for brief spikes up to 30% or so when it was in the news, that is until the referendum.

Away from the data you can see it in the Tory's years in the wildnerness vs. Blair. They fought on a very Euroskeptic platform. They failed miserably.

I keep hearing all of this talk about opening up the NHS to US companies...but how would that work?  Surely there is no talk about actually dismantling the NHS or making Brits pay out of pocket for what is now covered?  The news stories, including the one linked, never seem to have any actual details, just empty rhetoric.
