These are deeply unserious politicians, wedded to their soundbites, the dash for tomorrow's newspaper headline and committed only to keeping a small section of society happy.

I think it has gone from a small section to a tiny one. Unless you have international income the debauching of the pound has made us all poorer.

I don't disagree, but what is the nature of the small bubble these politicans live in that convinces them they're so right? Against all the real world, real-time financial evidence that they're not, I should add.

At the same time it doesn't make sense as it doesn't serve the small section to have the country's stability at risk.

Do they know that though?

QuoteBetween Brexit, how far the Bank of England got behind the curve and now these fiscal policies, I think Britain will be remembered for having pursued the worst macroeconomic policies of any major country in a long time.

Fairly savage.

So what you're saying is apply for jobs abroad?

I wonder what the legalities are of working remote for a Dublin company whilst based in Britain. :hmm:

In all likelihood way too much trouble for the Dublin company to bother with. :( Thank Brexit for that.

What a bloody mess.

Quote from: Jacob on September 28, 2022, 07:03:35 PMIt's pretty obvious it's Sheilbh's vacation that's causing the economic crisis. If he was here, posting how it's actually not unreasonable the markets would pay heed and stabilize. Obviously he needs to come back.

Could one of you chaps who have his phone number send him an SMS?

Agreed, despite his seemingly strong  moral compass, he has clearly prioritized his own pleasure over the good of the nation and really the world.

Yes but what Larry is missing is all the control Britons have now.  Can't you feel all that control?

Tories are in total meltdown - the latest YouGov polls put Labour in at 53%, and the Tories on 21%. That may be a bit extreme, but definitely way beyond normal mid-term blues. Other polls aren't as extreme but definitely show a further clear movement to Labour.

I reckon Kwarteng is finished as chancellor and Truss have one last chance to get things right.
