"Fun" fact, the sister whon posted this was really concerned 30 or so years ago when her daughter had chickenpox because her husband had never had it (as adult male chickenpox can be bad news).

Though she'd probably argue, "Well, if your mom had sent you to those parties ..."

However, IIRC when I had chickenpox or measles my mom only let friends visit who had already had them.

You hung around with the sick kid and went home.  Sometimes you came down with chicken pox, but if you didn't, you tried again. It was a miserable experience and in no way character-building.

Only a sadistic moron thinks that unnecessary suffering is a good thing.

The Black Death parties were the worst though; just you, three cousins, a dead rat and thousands of fleas in a dark room. But if you were one of the 50% who survived it really formed your character and gave you religious enthusiasm.

I still have some scars from chicken pox. It was hell. Scratchy, scratchy.

I had measles as a baby, not as a toddler, but I really should do some booster vaccines for a few of those childhood diseases. And probably get the shingles one, what with me being old.

Mononucleosis was the worst I had. I missed school for six weeks. I also think the residual parts of Epstein-Barr have contributed to the number of autoimmune stuff that I carry.

In any case, vaccine skeptics and those longing for the good old days really should try polio and pneumonia with no antibiotics.

I don't know what the norm is in other countries, but the 130/80 for hypertension seems wildly misleading. I have had periods of hypertension, and got down to 132/74, which is considered fine. Even 150/100 was okay.

Yes, it was a miserable experience. Who was the dumb ass who created the notion it was a "party"?

In several surveys, the overwhelming first choice for what makes Canada unique is multiculturalism. This, in a world collapsing into stupid, impoverishing hatreds, is the distinctly Canadian national project.

It does suck you have to pay for the chicken pox vaccine.
Though given how chicken pox can be a bit of a gamble and even best case it means a week off school and a suffering kid.... The finances do add up.

I believe it was January of this year where the NHS finally expanded it so kids will get the vaccine on the NHS.
