The Minsky Moment

We have, accordingly, always had plenty of excellent lawyers, though we often had to do without even tolerable administrators, and seen destined to endure the inconvenience of hereafter doing without any constructive statesmen at all.

I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. He shall live in the lands of the east, and be well tutored in his sacred trust to weave the best traditions of Japan and the Sacred South together, until such time as he (or, indeed his house, which will periodically require infusion of both Southern and Japanese bloodlines of note) can deliver to the South it's independence, either in this world or in space.  -Lettow April of 2011

Parroted anti-Semitics neo-Nazi slogans ("6 million wasn't enough"); also racist slogans against Blacks and Hispanic; also anti-Muslim, praised Breivik etc.

Haven't seen the anti-Muslim stuff.  Did see the anti-black and anti-Hispanic.  I thought Neo-Nazis were supposed to like Trump.

Insane movements produce insane people who do weird shit. Like the MAGA guy who tried to kill Trump because of his paranoid bullshit. So just because somebody is a Nazi it doesn't necessarily mean that individual is going to act in a way that makes any sense even based on the bizarre delusional tenants of Nazism.

Contrary, just because she wants to kill "filthy Zionist Jews", doesn't mean the person is a Neo-Nazi.

Oh. We're doing this again.

I mean she is a piece of garbage, a completely evil person. So punch at her all you want.

At this point, I honestly don't know what gender the individual saw themselves as. They were assigned male at birth, transitioned and changed their name at a later date, and apparently expressed detransition desires when they started to get deep into the O9A awfulness. I had to be informed what that is. Apparently, "Order of the nine angels, an extremist terrorist/satanic accelerationist group (specifically a new online chapter around 2020) that believes in performing mass death events with incoherent expressed ideologies to hasten the collapse of modern society. It's the online pro-shooting chatrooms that goad each other to go commit school shootings." Which... yeah. That makes total sense for their absolutely incoherent range of "beliefs" they put out there in their manifesto, videos, journals, and what not.

All of that being said, there have been some absolutely unhinged responses from the Right toward trans folks over this. I don't know how badly this will end up being for folks like myself, but I know it will be used against us.  :(

Any proof that the person was a satanist?  Seems like an internet rumor.

I think that is part of the O9A "culture". Their version of Satanism seems to be trying to live up to the propaganda of all of the most crazed Evangelical fears of what a "satanist" is. So... probably nonsense and edginess for the sake of nonsense and edginess.

Yeah, certainly seems that way.
As I say its really weird this one is getting such huge attention compared to many other shootings.
Its amazing the conclusion seems to be trans-control rather than gun-control.

Stories with a hook always get more attention. Usually it's when a pretty person dies. Used to.be kids, but school shooting are such the norm now it's not the ratings draw it used to be. Hell if she'd been a midget or something it'd be a big story too (maybe bigger).

That's not to say the backlash won't be unfortunate.
Being lazy is bad; unless you still get what you want, then it's called "patience".
Hubris must be punished. Severely.

Yeah - I sort of think this is maybe because it's the other way round.

I think we oversubscribe explicable motives and I think part of that is I think there's been a blurring of terrorism and mass violence. I've mentioned this before but there's been a few cases where it's someone with a history of mental health diffculties, an interest in violence who kills people and shouts a slogan - and we kind of take them at their word. I don't want to gatekeep terrorism but I think it does need to involve more than one person. Because I could be wrong and this could be total bullshit, but from anything I've read mass shooters, mass stabbers seem to me to have very different motivations and psychologies than terrorists. And it often seems to me that what are described as "lone wolf"terrorists seem more like mass shooters.

So I think it is more the type of person and situation who is going to commit an act of mass violence is going to be looking at and interested in lots of mad shit that doesn't necessarily cohere. They're not ideologically driven even if it is of interest.

I've mentioned it before but Axel Rudakubana, who committed the horrendous Southport killings here last year, had been flagged to counter-extremism programs. He was very interested in ISIS and al-Qaeda content, for example (but not a Muslim). Part of the reason he fell through the cracks of those programs was exactly that he wasn't ideological - or he was flagged as "mixed or unclear ideology". What he was interested in was extreme violence. I don't think they're inspired by ideology (however loathsome) to commit mass violence or that it's for a political end, but that they are interested in those ideologies precisely because they've committed mass violence. I think Prevent, the counter-extremism program here, has also said that "mixed or unclear" ideology radicalisation is the fastest growing category in the reports they receive.
Let's bomb Russia!

No, an adult attacking a school usually gets big headlines.  This was the front page of CNN before it was known the shooter was Trans.
