Some sort of official statement would do that, though. I assume the actual occurances at issue aren't in doubt - normally, a "probe" means "an investigation to discover the truth", meaning that the truth isn't known.

In this case, it is hardly a secret these days that McCarthy & allies used dirty tricks to destroy people generally, and I assume it isn't in doubt that the facts are what they are claimed to be in the article.

As I understand it, while the family of Sen. Hunt and several other people firmly believe that the article is 100% accurate, there are those who continue to deny that there was ever a blackmail plot. I think that when the latest article or book came out over this, there was a big backlash about how Hunt Jr. (or whoever the author was) was going to be sued for slandering the two senators mentioned.

Effectively, I think this latest push is to put to rest any doubt about the blackmail plot as the major factor for the suicide.
Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there
He wasn't there again today
I wish, I wish he'd go away...
