Depends where, for Japan, land of technophiles, it was mainstream so relatively cheap.
Yet much better than VHS back then which itself was crappier than Betamax or even V2000. Laserdiscs paved the way for DVD (they still sound better in some cases) and blu-ray with the extra tracks for
original/extra/remixed tracks and extras since it was the first cinephile home video format.
Actually, since VHS was crap from the very beginning and kept on living for too long, VHS was more of a hindrance than anything else.

Not sure about the cd since cd itself has evolved: Super Audio CD, DVD-Audio, Blu-spec cd, shm-cd etc.
Of course, for the brainless teenagers who listens to shitty music the sound quality is not that important so going full dematerialised is no big deal.
I mean, vinyls were supposed to be dead and their technology has not evolved as much.
There are still plenty of cinemas showing 35 mm, much less 16 mm and 70 mm (for different reasons) yes, but this has always been the case.
At worst, they will keep them in cinematheques.

A Miramar man was being held on no bond Thursday after his arrest for engaging in sexual activity with a minor, sending explicit photos to the girl's father and threatening to kill the girl's grandmother, according to officials.

Tavaris Adams, 28, is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl, according to a Hollywood Police report. He is charged with lewd and lascivious activity with a minor, promoting the sexual performance of a child, transmitting child pornography, threatening to kill a witness and violation of probation.

Adams' bond on the charges was set at $255,000, but he was being held on no bond on a probation violation, online jail records said.

Broward County Circuit Judge John Hurley read Adams his charges Thursday, stating that the events took place between May 1, 2011 and Aug. 31, 2012.

In court, Adams denied the charges, telling the judge, "This is 2013, sir."

The judge advised Adams to remain silent about the case as his lawyer was in federal court and couldn't be at the hearing.

"Allegedly, you sent text messages to the father telling him that you were having sex with his daughter," Hurley added. "I'm not going to get specific - it's not appropriate - but suffice it to say it's explicit."

The girl's father told police he began getting the text messages after getting into an argument with Adams over the phone about his sexual relationship with his daughter.

The girl admitted to police that she had taken the photos herself and sent them to Adams, the report said.

She said Adams also threatened the her grandmother, telling the her he was going to shoot up her grandmother's house and the babies that live there, according to the report.

When the relationship began, the girl told Adams she was 17 and he told her he was 20, the report said. When he found out her real age, he continued the relationship. The illicit sexual activity would take place in Adams' car or at his mother's house in Miramar, according to the report.

Adams' prior charges include burglary, grand theft and resisting an officer without violence, according to a prosecutor. This is his third violation of probation, the prosecutor said.

Hurley set Adams' bond on the condition that he wear a GPS monitor on release and refrain from direct or indirect contact with the victim or anyone in her family.
