How much does those job pay outside of the Unions salary scales?

I think it's something like $16/hour vs. $22/hour.

Keep in mind that as part of the bailout, the UAW allowed new hires to be paid a lower rate too, something in line with that $16/hour.

I disagree.  A blood test is fairly minimally invasive.

In this country a police officer can demand a blood sample.  You say "just on their say-so", while I say "when they have reasonable and probably grounds to believe an offence has been committed".  There are safeguards in that a "medical practitioner" must say it is safe for the person to give blood, but there is no warrant needed.  Which is a good thing - it takes hours and hours to get a warrant.

Of course when you look at the article, in this country we wouldn't have bothered with a blood test.  Once the suspect refuses to give a breath sample that'd be the end of the story.
