I haven't been celebrating, but FWIW I hold that NFL players have an absolute right to kneel during the national anthem.  OTOH, I also hold that their team has a right to terminate their employment for doing so, limited by applicable labor laws and the contract between the NFLPA and the owners.

Right
And the state of Colorado says if you want to run a business in the state, and offer products to the general public, then you can't refuse to sell to people based on their personal characteristics.  Rules are rules.

I'll probably have four kids at my house tomorrow. One more probably wouldn't make much of a difference

You, sir, are an inspiration to us all...I mean presuming you and they all live.

For the time it's just three of them it'll be fine. But while the cleaning lady's kid is there it will be hell.  Only way I can keep him from annoying the other kids and me is to keep giving him food.

The new Spanish cabinet has more women in it than men (10 out of 17 ministers), a first in our history. And they all are quite experienced and put in charge of important portfolios, so no tokenisms. Good times.

Man, I really want this administration to succeed. Still, a pretty rocky path awaits.

It's marketing. They have no way of passing laws or next years' budget without self-destructing in the next elections.

That been said, I think it was the right move for the party. A Hail Mary play, to be sure. But PSOE was slowly dying, devoured by Podemos from the left and Cs from the right. It's base aging.

Now the party is back on the main stage. Only time will tell if this is for better or worse.

Capturing the presidency with half of the required MPs for a majority is hardly a hail mary, rather a coup. They played this brilliantly.

Of course they're not in the best position in parliament, but the party looked completely dead just two weeks ago. Things should go really badly for the party not to look up from here. The economy is not expected to slow down for the remainder of the term, either.

But, as I understand it, the baker argued that he wan't refusing to sell to someone because of their sexual orientation, but rather that he wasn't willing to sell a cake to be used for a particular type of event.

So if they had tried to buy cookies to be eaten at this wedding he would have also denied them service? Or is it only cakes that this legal concept should apply? Any other sorts of foods? :hmm:

That argument isn't responsive to the principle however. If you create a loophole to non-discrimination law that says a business owner offering products to the general public can discriminate based on his expectation of the downstream use of the product, that guts the law.  The florist isn't going to sell to the gay man who will give the flowers to his lover, the furniture salesperson won't sell to the gay woman who will make house with her wife, etc.

That's not true.  He had previously sold wedding cakes, so he had to know they were used for that "particular type of event."  Who buys wedding cakes except for weddings?
