Because they watch Fox News. Which is what I said.

Yeah what happened to the Koch brothers hysteria? I guess with Trump around there is no room for other bogeymen.

Still around, mostly in Democratic fundraising emails.  Saw several (or the same one several times; I lose track) for Beto in Texas fundraising off of the Koch brothers recently.

Pity. I really hate that shit. All this fear mongering is dangerous. But preaching the issues never raises money.

Heck I am not even aware if the Koch Brothers are pro or anti Trump.

Okay... Why is Fox News talking about him rather than people who donate more to Democratic causes?  Why is Soros the one being accused of being an octopus and not Steyer?
I've given it serious thought. I must scorn the ways of my family, and seek a Japanese woman to yield me my progeny. I don't know. I just know he's talked about.

Surely there are other Jewish donors who could be talked about. I don't think that is sufficient explanation.

IIRC they were anti-Trump at first, but have made some level of peace with him.  But they're hardly in his inner circle.

Okay.  Why do you suppose Soros is a major figure in the Propaganda of the Middle East and Eastern Europe?

Yeah it is one of life's great secrets wrapped in an enigma and smothered in secret sauce.

Soros is also the most popular Elder amongst our Far Right. Fortunately our neo-nazi parties have a minuscule following.

You know the PP guy that was dismissed from the European Council recently for taking bribes from Azerbayan? He also blamed Soros for everything, so it's getting popular outside of far right circles.

This is the problem - tinfoil hat crazy stuff going mainstream.

Soros carries some mystique for his role in breaking the ERM - it's the kind of thing you'd expect a Jewish banker supervillain to do if that's how you view the world.  He is a "globalist" and funds civil society groups around the world.  He writes books that make claims to a philosophical system.  He fits the part of Elder of Zion type bogeyman more than say Steyer, who is just a successful hedge fund manager that gives money to US Democrats.

Plus Steyer is only half-Jewish.  It'd be like an octopus with only 4 arms.

Ok, barring major surprise the Spanish government will indeed fall as right now it looks like the socialists will win the motion of no confidence leading what the right calls a "Frankenstein Platform" of lefties, leftier lefties, Basque nationalists and Catalan separatists. However, the new government will be very weak - we'll probably be headed towards an election before the current term finishes in late 2020 (and the socialist candidate has indeed intimated it).

Fun times ahead, but ousting the conservatives was a bit of a moral necessity. I'd have preferred an election or a coalition with the liberals (but that was never going to happen given both parties' tactical interests and current seat counts), but that's where we'll probably end up within the next 12-18 months.

Confirmed. The vote will take part tomorrow but during today's debate the Socialist candidate has received the verbal backing of enough groups to win the motion.

There's rumours that President Rajoy might resign before the vote takes place.

Whenever I hear a European talk about their government falling, I immediately get these mental images of doom & gloom-- anarchy in the streets, revolutionaries storming a palace, etc.

Glad it's more peaceful than that :)

Last time we faced a similar scenario (Catalonia declaring a failed independence, the left ousting the right from power), we ended up staring at one million dead in a civil war.  :hmm:

We'll be fine this time.
