I think if you compare Netherlands with England, it's fairly close.

By in each other's face I meant more of the economic competition and having to have obvious winners/losers, rather than solely being 'up for it on a Friday night'

Yeah, I didn't know it would be that close.

Oddly for the last couple of years, since they announced the Scottish referendum campaign, I've been thinking of the country in economic and statistical term as England, with a variable number of other 'kingdoms/provinces/principalities' depending on politics, attached as an after thought.

According to a German website if the pictures/videos were published without consent, then damages for the trauma/suffering can also be awarded by civic courts. Additionally, German punitive law allows monetary fines and jail up to one year for "publishing images of a highly peronal/private nature." The situation is similar in Austria.

Okay. In the UK I don't think we've a similar law that's that general - I think there are specific offences based on specific types of info or data online. It may be a difference in our approaches to writing laws because we don't have a criminal code, so most offences are created by a 'new law' rather than a more general crime of 'publishing images of a highly personal/private nature'.

My understanding is that the only answer for a victim of revenge porn was a civil case under confidentiality. Which obviously takes time and costs money and is probably an inadequate remedy. I think the criminal law does need to step in.

What makes Dutch people so law-abiding?

Crime's falling everywhere in the Western world. It's a really interesting mystery.
