It looks like there's an abuse-of-authority-covering-up-sexual-abuse scandal boiling up amongst American Protestant churches and ministries.

This is an interesting - if long - article in the subject if you are interested: http://prospect.org/article/next-christian-sex-abuse-scandal

Quick summary: there's exactly as much abuse and cover ups as you'd expect in institutions based on trust, with available kids, and concerned about their reputations. But there are some groups - GRACE, which is the subject of the article and quite interesting - that are trying to encourage openness and accountability in an apparently fairly rigorous way.

I wonder if there's a trend that coverups backfire strong enough that they become no longer the default in these kinds of situations, whether amongst religious or other institutions.
